Our Team

Lydia Michaels
Founder & CEO

Described by her coworkers as creative, organized, & prolific, Lydia is a solution-oriented thinker who deeply values integrity and believes that research and hard work lead to evergreen success. Off the clock, Lydia is Virgo AF, likely hosting some sort of theme party, and quoting 80’s movies instead of speaking proper English. Her favorite genres are romance, psychology, self-help, and ancient theology.

Ivone Santos
Event Coordinator

Described by her coworkers as  dependable, professional, & detail-oriented on the clock, off the clock, Ivone is sarcastic, introverted, and secretly watching K-pop with her dog Ozzy. Born in Portugal, Ivone often flies home to visit her parents and play with the baby goats on her family’s farm.

Loren Brake
Copy Editor

Described by her coworkers as  precise, professional, & “the grammar police” on the clock, off the clock, Loren is an avid reader of romance (especially Lydia’s books) and a lover of music, family, happy hours, and the beach! She’s also a NY Mets fan, but us Philly girls let that one slide.

Ariana Lafferty
Junior Assistant

Described by her coworkers as diplomatic, a perfectionist, & resourceful, off the clock Ariana lives year round as an autumn enthusiast who mostly speaks in dry sarcasm. She enjoys baking and dreams of one day living in France above a bakery. Her favorite fields of study include psychology, botany, and French.

Kim Garrison
Administrative Assistant

Described by her coworkers as enthusiastic, helpful, and caring, off the clock Kim is usually laughing or making others laugh while creating TikToks, stalking celebrities, and navigating mom drama. Kim is a savant with old school, 80’s rap lyrics. She enjoys impersonating Karen Walker (Will and Grace) but has been workshopping Anne Hathaway roles with Devil Wears Prada vibes.

Lydia's Story

Born with the name Briana, Lydia was a little girl who insisted on tying her own shoes—even when she didn’t know how. She later went on to not only master the art of shoe-tying, but also conquer anything else she put her mind to.

Diagnosed with dyslexia in the third grade, she faced challenges during her school years and struggled to keep up with her peers. Several unkind teachers underestimated her abilities and put her down. She is eternally grateful for the few that recognized her potential and encouraged her.

Over time, people learned not to underestimate her determination to succeed. Regardless of the adversity she faced during her formative years, naysayers could not dissuade Lydia from following her dreams. Once she overcame her limiting beliefs, her mindset changed forever.

She graduated college, magna cum laude, with a dual degree in education and married her childhood sweetheart. After having a baby, life took an unexpected detour and she was diagnosed with systemic lupus, an event that redefined her values in an instant. Heartbroken to learn she could not have more children, she embraced motherhood full-heartedly and paused her career indefinitely to savor every precious moment. During this reflective time, she put pen to paper and wrote her first novel, setting her authentic self free.

Lydia Michaels was born in December of 2007. Her affection for writing was another unexpected surprise that soon became one of the greatest loves of her life. Barely able to spell above a 4th grade level and unable to type at any respectable speed, Lydia worked tirelessly to improve her skills. She studied the publishing industry and practiced her craft, determined to see her books published traditionally with one of the Big 6 houses. Four years and thirty-six rejection letters later, she succeeded, garnering a three book contract with Penguin Random House and landing her books in stores between her greats like E.L. James and Sylvia Day!

Fifteen years later, and Lydia is an award-winning and bestselling author of more than 40 novels. Pretty good for a dyslexic kid who was once told by a teacher, “Well, you’re not going to be a writer.” (Lydia dedicated her 10th book to that gem.)

No matter what name her friends and colleagues call her, they all know her to have an indomitable spirit. Lydia believes anything is possible with hard work and the right plan and has used her story to motivate many to follow their dreams.

Today, Lydia Michaels is the CEO of two sister companies, Lydia Michaels Books and Lydia Michaels Coaching & Consulting. She is the consecutive winner of Happenings Media’s Author of the Year Award and continues to publish fiction and non-fiction books regularly. In 2022, she became a certified life coach and works one-on-one with a select clientele. When she’s not writing or coaching, she’s teaching seminars as a transformational speaker or consulting professionals in a variety of industries.

Blending her love of writing with her passion for teaching has allowed Lydia to help others follow their dreams. As an advocate for authors, she aspires to share her knowledge with as many writers as possible. If you have a story to share, LMC can show you the way.
